Carpet cleaning across the five Medway Towns

Medway is not one town but five, Chatham, Rochester, Gillingham, Rainham and Strood, each with its own character and its own type of housing stock. Rochester’s cobbled streets and Dickensian buildings sit alongside genuinely old terraces, some with original floorboards and carpets that have never seen a professional clean.

Chatham has a strong naval history and a real mix of Victorian terraces near the old Dockyard and post-war estates further out. Gillingham and Rainham lean more residential and family-focused, with 1930s semis and newer estate housing. Strood, on the west bank, has its own town centre and a growing number of new-build developments along the waterfront.

Beyond the five main towns, we regularly work in Walderslade, Luton, Hempstead and Wigmore on the southern edge, and out towards Cuxton, Halling and Wouldham in the Medway Gap. We know the difference between a Rochester period cottage and a Hempstead new-build semi, and we clean accordingly.

A real Medway job

A family in Rainham got in touch about the living room carpet in their 1930s semi. It had been down since they moved in, was covered in a mix of old furniture indentations, a large orange juice stain the kids had left months earlier and general greying along the main walkway from the hall to the kitchen. They had considered replacing it entirely but wanted to see what a professional clean could do first.

We identified the carpet as a mid range polypropylene, ran a pre treatment on the juice stain and the worst of the traffic lane, then completed the full truck mounted extraction. The furniture indentations lifted with steam and gentle grooming once the pile was clean and damp. The stain came out completely. The family said it looked close to how it did when they first moved in, and decided to hold off replacing it for at least another few years.

Strood, Medway
We'd put off getting the carpets done in our Strood house for years because we assumed it would cost a fortune and make a mess. Brennan was in and out in under two hours, explained everything he was doing, and the stairs and landing look brand new. Would not hesitate to recommend

We had the carpet, sofa and one of our ovens done in the same visit ahead of a family get-together in Gillingham. Brennan talked us through what he was seeing on the carpet before he started, treated a couple of stubborn marks by the back door, and the truck-mounted system dried everything far quicker than we expected. Sofa looks like new and the ovens are back to being usable without smoking. Really thorough and explained everything as he went.

What makes Medway carpets different?

The five Medway Towns cover a wider mix of housing than almost anywhere else we work. Rochester’s older streets and the terraces near Chatham’s historic Dockyard often have original wool or wool-blend carpets on floorboards that have been down for decades, needing lower temperatures and careful extraction to avoid shrinkage. The newer estates around Hempstead, Wigmore and parts of Strood tend to have synthetic fitted carpets, which are hardwearing but trap allergens deep in the pile, particularly in family homes.

Being a naval and dockyard town historically, many Medway properties are also rental or ex-rental housing with a fast tenant turnover, which means carpets often carry a build-up of general wear rather than one specific problem. We assess each carpet on arrival rather than assuming what we will find, because a Gillingham semi and a Rochester period terrace need genuinely different treatment.

Common stains we deal with in Medway homes

  • General wear and traffic-lane greying in rental and ex-rental properties across Chatham and Gillingham
  • Red wine, tea and coffee marks in older Rochester properties with original wool carpets
  • Children’s spills and stains in family homes around Rainham and Hempstead
  • Damp and musty smells in properties near the river in Strood and Cuxton
  • Pet hair and odour build-up in longer-term family homes across Walderslade and Luton

Five towns, one team who knows them all

Chatham, Rochester, Gillingham, Rainham and Strood each have their own housing quirks. We do not treat Medway as one generic area, we adjust to the property in front of us, whether that is a Rochester period terrace or a Strood new-build.

Built for rental turnaround

With a large rental market across the Medway Towns, we regularly work to tight turnaround windows between tenants. We provide receipts and before-and-after photos for landlords and letting agents as standard.

Old carpets, handled properly

Rochester and central Chatham have some genuinely old housing stock. We identify wool and wool-blend carpets before we start and adjust our water temperature and extraction accordingly, so period carpets are treated with the care they need.

Families across Rainham and Hempstead

Our truck-mounted extraction removes the ground-in dirt, allergens and bacteria that vacuuming leaves behind, so growing families across Medway's residential estates are walking on genuinely clean carpet.

Your carpet has more life in it than you think

Most carpets replaced across Medway still have years of wear left in them. Professional extraction removes the abrasive grit that wears fibres down from underneath, extending the life of the carpet you already have.

Brennan's team, not a subcontractor

Every job across the Medway Towns is carried out by our own trained team, not outsourced to a subcontractor you have never met. You will know who is coming to your home before they arrive.

How much does carpet cleaning in Medway cost?

We price by the room rather than by the square metre, because most people know how many rooms they need cleaned but would have to measure to give us a floor area. These are our standard starting prices for Medway. Larger rooms, heavy staining or delicate fibres may adjust the price, and we will always confirm before we start.

Every quote is confirmed before we start, with no hidden charges. Call us on 07858 812316, WhatsApp us, or fill in our contact form. We also carry out commercial cleaning for Medway’s restaurants, pubs, gyms and venues.

How often should you have your carpets cleaned?

For most Medway households we recommend every 12 to 18 months. If you have children under five, dogs or cats, or anyone with allergies or asthma, every 6 to 12 months makes a noticeable difference to air quality and carpet life. Rental properties between tenants benefit from a clean regardless of the interval, as it resets the carpet for the next occupant and provides documented proof of condition.

How long does carpet cleaning take to dry?

With our truck-mounted system, most carpets are touch-dry within 2 to 4 hours and fully dry within 6 to 8. Wool carpets and thicker piles take longer, sometimes up to 12 hours. Properties near the river in Strood and Cuxton can take slightly longer to dry in damper weather, so we always factor local conditions into our advice.

Our Approach

Every carpet clean follows the same process, because shortcuts are where damage happens:

  • Assessment. We check the fibre type, identify stains and test a small area before anything else.
  • Pre treatment. Problem areas are treated with the right spotter for that specific stain.
  • Truck-mounted extraction. Our equipment stays in the van and feeds hot water and suction through hoses into your home for far more extraction power than any portable machine.
  • Deodorising. Every carpet is deodorised as standard.
  • Fibre protector (optional). Coats each fibre so future spills bead on the surface. Particularly worthwhile in Medway’s rental and family properties where carpets see heavier use.

All our products are biodegradable, safe for children and pets, and we always leave your home clean and dry, not wet and smelling of chemicals.

Carpet Cleaning in Medway

Yes. We cover all five Medway Towns, Chatham, Rochester, Gillingham, Rainham and Strood, as well as Walderslade, Luton, Hempstead, Wigmore and the villages of Cuxton, Halling and Wouldham. Wherever you are across Medway, we can get to you.

Yes. Our hoses reach up to 60 metres from the van, so we do not need to park directly outside your door. In the tighter terraced streets around central Chatham and Rochester, we find a nearby space and run the hoses in. Let us know if parking looks difficult when you book and we will plan ahead.

Older properties around Rochester and central Chatham often have original floorboards that have settled or shifted over time. We work carefully around uneven floors, adjust our equipment pressure accordingly, and always test a small area first on any carpet that looks fragile or delicate before starting the full clean.

Yes, we are happy to quote for individual rooms or areas rather than a full property. Hallways and stairs are often the highest-traffic areas in Medway homes and a popular standalone booking, particularly in terraced housing where the hall connects straight to the street.

Yes. With a large rental market across the Medway Towns, we carry out a lot of end-of-tenancy carpet cleans, particularly in Chatham, Gillingham and Strood. We provide receipts and before-and-after photos for landlords, letting agents and deposit schemes.
